How to wear Red Lipstick

Red lips are the quintessential sexy look but getting it "just right" can take a little know-how. Red lips are a classic look as seen on many  a golden age Hollywood beauty, and they're a pop of color that can enhance many a look.

Whether you're just in the mood to have fun with your look, or you're going to a formal ball, red lips are often the best choice.

Here's how to make sure they're a well applied choice too.

Step 1: Select the red lipstick.
Most people are able to wear cool red. However, it is important to try different shades  of red to find the one that suits you best. Ask a makeup retail assistant to help you make a suitable choice; be sure to test under good lighting.
  • Orange-red or reds with more yellow in them are kinder to olive or easily tanned skins (warm complexions).
  • Pale skin tones (cooler complexions) are better with blue toned reds.
  • A berry-tone fuchsia is a good daytime red.
Try red in a see-through sheer texture if you're not sure.

Step 3: Prepare your lips
Clean and dry your lips in preparation. Slightly moisturize your lips by adding a little lip balm. Before proceeding, wait for it to be absorbed.

Step 4:  Add lip liner
Avoid red lip liner as it is outdated.  Slightly line outside your lips if you want your lips to look bigger. Consider using a clear liner;  it allows you to outline your lips to prevent lipstick from running and bleeding. Mary Kay has a new clear lip liner that works great with red lipstick and has received amazing reviews.

If you don't have a lip liner, pat concealer across your lips.

Step 5:  Apply the lipstick.
You can use different kinds, but usually a traditional lipstick is preferable. Don't forget the very inside of your lips, as you smile the colour of your real lips might be a big contrast to the redness.

Once in place, lightly dab the lipstick with a tissue. A coat of translucent powder can do wonders too. Then, last but not least, apply either a clear or a red lip gloss. You can never put too little lip gloss, but avoid the edges, because it might dribble over if it's too much.

Place your index finger in your mouth and move it around gently. It'll lift excess red lipstick likely to smear on your teeth.

Water, Water, Water!!!!

Water is the most crucial part of anyone's health and beauty routine. Beneath the surface, our skin is 90% water which acts as a lubricant and nutrient reserve for our whole body. So it is a must to keep our skin fully hydrated.
As water evaporates through the skin daily, we should all train ourselves to drink as much water as possible to keep our skin properly hydrated.

Energize your skin

To energize your skin, in addition to your daily facial routine you should start each day with gentle stretching exercises that will get the oxygen pumping and the blood flowing.

A fresh rosy complexion sends out a message of health, happiness and wellbeing. For a pale skinned person, softly pinch your cheeks. The colour of your skin after doing this is approximately the shade of blusher you should look for.

Holiday Makeup

Holiday parties are just around the corner and to get you ready to go from work to cocktail party,
here are a few holiday makeup tips:

Two looks this season are classic and hot: The smokey, shimmery eye paired with light lips and the deep red lips balanced with a light eye. Shimmer is in this year, as it was last year, and it's the perfect festive look as long as you don't overload on the shimmer.

Primers are a must this season for both face and eye makeup. Primers go on before foundation or eye shadow and keep makeup in place for hours. They also fill in fine lines and skin imperfections so your tinted moisturizer goes on smoothly.

Transitioning from work to evening is actually pretty easy if you prep yourself. Apply tinted moisturizer (or foundation), mascara and gloss or lipstick before work. After work, cover any blemishes by patting in a concealer (never rub). Then follow these steps for either the smokey eye look or the deep red look:

For the Smokey Eye
1. Apply your eye makeup: Eyeliner on both top and bottom lashes (be sure to 'smudge it,' dark eyeliner will age you), a eye shadow primer, and a shimmery shadow on the lid. Don't apply any more mascara unless your earlier application has rubbed completely off, otherwise you risk getting clumpy lashes.
2. Dab a shimmery blush to cheeks.
3. Powder your face lightly.
4. Apply a light lipstick or gloss. (I like Mary Kay lip glosses, they go on smoothly)

For Deep Red Lips
1. Cover unsightly veins on eyelids with a matte eyeshadow in a color that's as close as your skin tone as possible (such as beige).
2. Apply a very light shimmery blush on cheeks.
3. Line lips and fill in with your favorite red color.
4. Powder face.

Using Foundation to Contour Your Features

By using a darker foundation (maybe 2-3 shades darker than your complexion), you can create shadows on your face to hide or enhance your natural features.

This contouring works best at narrowing features that you think are too wide. To make your whole face appear leaner and narrower, apply the darker shade of foundation around your hairline and under your cheeks.

To narrow down a wide nose, apply your usual foundation on the center of your nose, then run the darker foundation down the sides to enhance the shadowing.

Using Blush to Sculpt Your Face

Blush can really give your face that healthy look, but models know that it can also be used to reduce or enhance your facial features. The judicious use of blush can create contours where there are none, or soften angular features, taking an average face and making it more beautiful.

Lets start with the nose. If yours is too long and narrow, try applying a little blush down the center of your nose. Conversely, if its too wide, try lining it down each side.

It works the same for your face. If you have a wide forehead and small chin, try blending your blush down from your ear to your chin. If your forehead is smaller and your chin larger, blend it up around your eye and across your forehead.

10 Minutes to Beautiful

A busy schedule is one the most perfect excuses that girls use when they start neglecting themselves. How many times have you heard the line, I have no time? Countless right?  But believe it or not, all you need to stay pretty is ten minutes tops.Ready? Here we go:
1. Wash, Tone, And Moisturize. You've heard it time and again, but its true. Following this easy, three-Step Secret can help keep your skin smooth, young and moisturized.  If you move quick enough, five minutes is all you need.  I started using the Mary Kay 3 in 1 cleanser and bundled these 3 steps in one and my skin looks more fabulous than ever.
2. Hair we go. Your hair is there for a reason and it shouldn't be ignored. If you think you won't  have time to be bothered with it, then take three minutes to clear the tangles and put it up in a neat pony. Too short? Slather on some gel or wax to keep every strand in place. A messy mop of hair with no sense of direction? Definitely not pretty.

3. Pink is it. You've already got perfect skin and your hair's in place. So all you need to complete the look is to swab a bit of lip gloss to your lips and some color for your cheeks. A lip and cheek tint would instantly give you a healthy pink glow.  If you can spare an extra minute I would recommend using a light foundation or even a mineral powder foundation that would protect your skin from dust, sun and other elements and at the same time give your skin a flawless look,

As the cliche goes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But sometimes, the first person you should be able to convince is no one else but your self. Being beautiful is all about feeling good about what you see in the mirror everyday and being at peace with yourself. But it's also all about knowing the right bits of information that would keep you looking every inch of the beautiful person that you truly are.
